In 1985, Washington DC, USA a group of likeminded free thinkers, music lovers, and fighters of the good cause created a collective named Positive Force. Its main aim was to inspire social change and youth empowerment through many different outlets. Mainly through the organization of concerts that would raise money for and support just causes and charities whilst at the same time showcasing bands that supported the fight and represented the voice of Washington’s under represented youth. Behind the scenes of change there will always be artists and musicians that support and help charge the voice of the people and as ever the most important voice is that of the youth. It is startlingly obvious and even to a degree pointless for us to tell you that the youth is the voice of tomorrow and the the one that can continue and progress positive action. But it is vital that the youth are informed of the truth and the choices they can have, choices that don’t involve over-indulgence, self-satisfaction, consumerism and bowing to the capitalist ways most perceive as the norm. Unfortunately music like politics and society has once again found itself in the hands of moneymakers, careerists, marketing men, fame seekers and ultimately capitalists. Many bands, promoters, venue owners, record labels and many more involved in the music industry only see music as a way of making the most money they can, forgetting why music is so important in the first place. It should empower people, give them enjoyment, enlightenment even, and not leave them short of pocket. Positive Action seeks to put music back into the hands of the youth, to once again inspire social change and youth empowerment. In it’s rawest form it will set out to put on shows that bring the best alternative music (but without restricting ourselves to just alternative and underground music) to the people in return for the support of a multitude of charities and causes. We do not want to be the only ones to put on these shows; we will support and aid anyone who wishes to follow our example. We take on suggestions for benefits for any charity or just cause. We wish for Positive Action not to be London-centric but to help set up and support many factions across the country who will independently put on similar shows and events. We aim to create a strong network and core of musicians, bands, promoters, venues, label owners, journalists and fellow free thinkers who will help Positive Action to grow. We will accept any one into the Positive Action Community as-long as they too stand against the faults listed below. We will never support and strongly stand against any individual, organization, band or otherwise that partakes in any against equality including racism, sexism, homophobia, militarism, violence, classism, hierarchy, ageism, excessive materialism, economic inequality, censorship and discrimination against disabled people, among other things. Above all Positive Action stands to promote Unity and Equality. |
